Selling Point - SalesRecruits.com debuts
by SCOTT CAMPBELL
Engineers, schmengineers. High-level salespeople are much more difficult to find and keep, especially as the economy tightens, says Steven Morgan, President and CEO of SalesRecruits.com.
The Long Island company has started a Web-based job posting service through which salespeople can post resumes and peruse corporate openings.
"I ran a VAR for 10 years and went through a god-awful recession. During that time, nothing was more important than sales. We cut back in every area except sales," Morgan says. "To survive and thrive in an economic downturn, companies have to have eyes on the bottom line, which is revenue generation. Ask a small-to-midsize VAR how important sales is and I think you'll get a strong response."
Kathy Kemperman, senior recruiter at Molecular, a Watertown, Mass.-based solution provider, agrees that sales is a critical factor. "There are always Web designers, project managers and engineers on the market, but there's a lack of really high-caliber salespeople," says Kemperman.
Molecular hasn't yet hired anybody through SalesRecruits.com but has interviewed several candidates. "We have a very high bar, and in my mind that makes a company like SalesRecruits.com more valuable because it's harder to get at those people," she says.
